A composition graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium, Katie studied under Stephen Cronin and Gerard Brophy, completing her Bachelor of Music (Composition) in 2000. During her studies, Katie was awarded the A. G. Francis Prize for Composition, Robert S. Alva Memorial Prize, and the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence multiple times. She then went on to study a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) at Queensland University of Technology, and began work with Brisbane Catholic Education. Whilst teaching, Katie undertook a Postgrad Certificate in Arts Education at Australian Catholic University (ACU). A well-respected primary school arts teacher, Katie has previously contributed to an arts education text book published by Pearson Australia. Katie took maternity leave from her fulltime primary school teaching role in 2009, and has since worked at ACU in both lecturing and tutoring positions in Arts Education, and as a research assistant (proofreading, editing and marking).
Katie is experienced in working with a range of instruments, and has successfully taught piano, flute, theory and composition for over 20 years. FinePrint is proud to have Katie as their typesetter and proof reader, where her combined understanding as a composer, musician and educator, allows her to work across a wide range of projects with great awareness and perception. She has contributed to the preparation of scores for most of Australia’s symphony orchestras and leading composers, numerous best-selling volumes of keyboard music, and regularly assists self-publishers with music and text editing.
Katie has a fine appreciation of design and art, and is married to a talented illustrator. She is mum to three gorgeous young children, and is the one most likely to bake sugary treats for the rest of the FinePrint team.
